Building a Long-Term Marketing Strategy

A Long-Term Marketing Partnership

My work with Hedging UK actually began several years ago while I was working as a copywriter under a marketing agency.

During that time, I produced content for the website and began building a good working relationship with the business owner, Russell. While working on copy projects, I would often suggest small SEO improvements — things like image alt text, page structure, and content tweaks — when the agency didn’t have time to implement them.

Over time, this naturally developed into a deeper understanding of the website, the products, and the types of questions customers asked when researching hedging plants.

Eventually, Russell decided to move away from the agency, and around six months later, he approached me directly to ask if we could work together on the website’s SEO content.

Expanding the Role Over Time

What began as support with SEO-focused content gradually grew into a broader marketing role.

As the business expanded, Russell asked if I could also take over social media management, as he didn’t have time to maintain it himself.

Like many business owners, he knew social media was important, but didn’t always know:

• what to post
• how often to post
• which platforms to focus on
• how it should connect with the website content

From there, the marketing activity gradually evolved into a joined-up system.

What the Marketing Support Now Includes

Today, my work with Hedging UK includes ongoing marketing activity across several areas:

SEO Content

• species guides and educational blog posts
• content optimisation and updates
• SEO improvements such as image alt text and page structure

Google Business Profile

• regular posts that support search visibility
• updates linked to blog content and seasonal topics

Social Media Management

• monthly social media content
• posts highlighting plant varieties, seasonal advice and blog content

Website Improvements

Alongside content creation, I also contribute to discussions around user experience and website structure.

This involves regular conversations with Russell and his developer to ensure the website not only performs well in search results but also provides a clear, helpful experience for customers.

This is important because modern SEO is no longer just about keywords — Google increasingly rewards websites that are useful, well structured and easy to navigate.

A Strategy That Continues to Evolve

Because I have been working with the business for several years, the marketing approach has been able to evolve alongside the growth of the website.

Rather than one-off SEO projects, the focus is on continual improvements, including:

• adding new educational content
• refining existing pages
• supporting customers with helpful guides
• improving internal linking and navigation

This long-term approach helps the website steadily build authority within the gardening and hedging sector.

The Value of Long-Term SEO

SEO rarely produces instant results, particularly in specialist sectors like gardening.

But consistent improvements over time enable businesses to build a strong online presence that attracts customers actively researching the products they need.

For Hedging UK, this means the website continues to grow as both a retailer and a trusted information resource for hedging plants.

Why Long-Term Marketing Partnerships Work

One of the biggest lessons from working with Hedging UK is that effective marketing rarely happens through one-off projects.

Search engines, social media platforms and online audiences all reward consistency over time.

SEO improves as more useful content is added.
Social media grows when posting becomes regular and relevant.
Websites perform better when they are continually refined and improved.

By working together over several years, we’ve been able to build a marketing approach that evolves alongside the business — introducing new content, refining existing pages and improving the overall user experience as the website grows.

This kind of ongoing collaboration allows marketing to become a long-term asset for the business rather than a series of isolated tasks.

Could This Approach Work for Your Business?

Many small and medium-sized businesses already have great products or services — they simply need consistent marketing support to ensure their website, content and social media continue to grow.

That’s exactly why I offer simple marketing packages designed to provide ongoing SEO, content and marketing support without the complexity of a large agency.
